Shampoo = Bad For Your Drug Resistance?

Can Your Shampoo Make You Sick?
UK study says 'biocite' used in household products leads to antibiotic resistance Photo by Indiawomenshealth.com

THIS just in from our favorite green website, Treehugger: Did you know that something as harmless as your hair shampoo could make you resistant to drugs such as antibiotics?

Citing a research by UK scientists, Treehugger says "pollution from compounds in myriad household products could also be fostering antibiotic resistance." These industrial compounds are known as "biocites" and used by nearly all household and personal products.

"The study delved into the question of whether pollution from sewage sludge, animal disinfectants, and fabric softeners could be linked to the rise in drug resistance in bacteria," says the site.

Are organic products an alternative? The study does not really say, but we'll keep you posted.
