NOR FARALIZA, 26, offers henna tattoo services

Tell us about yourself and how you ended up with what you’re doing now.
My Name is Nor Faraliza — Fara for short. I turn 26 this year, have been married for four years and staying just with my hubby. Singing, reading, dancing, and meeting people have been part of my hobbies, but the greatest of them all is henna drawing. I'm not an art student because I’m not interested in drawing — ha! ha! — always away from Art Class. What surprised me was that I fell in love with henna designs and decided to learn to do it.

What first made you want to become a henna artist?
At first I just thought of doing it for those who are interested, for fun. But with encouragement and suggestion from my family members and especially my mum, I decided to try it out. In 2002, I serviced in an engagement ceremony and then decided to make it part of my freelance work. By doing this at least I get to earn extra income.

Who are your customers?
Talent House Studio is one of my clients and recent assignment from them is a Media Event. My henna service has become popular through word of mouth and that is how I get e-mail and phone calls inquiries. I'm so glad and happy that my customers appreciate my work and continue to give me their support till now.

What are your favourite...
...Books? Henna Design books from Hennapage and Make-up books by Kevin Aucoin, his books rock, with all the step-by-step guide on how to doll-up your face for occasions
...Movies? Movies with dance moves have always been favourites
...Songs? When it come to music, I'm very versatile: Musical, R & B, Chinese Song, even songs from Bollywood movies
...Websites? I frequently get my stuff at hennapage.com because they have a wide range of stuff there. In total I have purchased two of their E-Books Henna Patterns. They are generous with tips on how to do your henna paste, how to do mylar cone, etc.

In five years I'd like to be...I hope by that time my skill has already reached a standard whereby i can go around Singapore or other countries to share part of Henna Skills Drawing to those who are interested :)

What advice would you give to freelancers who are new to 88DB?
Don't be afraid about not getting any client. If it's meant to be yours, it will be...I have been receiving enquiries from customers via e-mail and was told they got it via 88DB.
