It's nice to have this quality time eating out on good restaurants once in a while with our family or special someone. It also feels good to have this simple freedom of treating them either coming from our bonus or simple savings. We can lessen our expenses by noting these reminders on saving on our electric bills.

First would be keeping our home appliances well maintained. Household appliances operate more efficiently and use less energy when it is in good working condition. One should know its limits and give it proper cleaning.

When shopping for a new refrigerator, one should choose energy efficient refrigerators. Check the label attached to the refrigerator, units that have a higher Energy Efficiency Factor are more energy efficient and cost less to operate. Newer refrigerator models use 30% less electricity than those built 10 years ago and newer models usually use less as companies now go eco-friendly. A 4-tick refrigerator saves you about $130 a year over a 1-tick mode. Similarly a 4-tick air-conditioner saves you about $460 in electricity bills a year in comparison to a 1-tick model.

Upon shopping for a new appliance have this insight. Think of two price tags of the appliance, the first price would be the purchase price and then think it as a down payment. Then the second price would be the price tag of how much cost the product will yield during its lifetime of service. You'll be paying on that second price tag every month with your utility bill for the next 10 to 20 years. Refrigerators usually last an average of 20 years while air conditioners and dishwashers last for 10 years while clothes washers for about 14 years so weigh it well.

Lastly, home lighting costs about 20% to 30% of one’s electric bill so make sure that it provides direct lighting on needed spots and attain a habit of turning it off when not using . This also goes true with monitors, televisions sets and other general appliances. One must remember to opt compact fluorescent lamp and switch off home appliances at the power socket as standby power can account for up to 10% of one home's electricity use.

In times of recession, one must learn how to adapt and have a better allotment of our resources. Would it be nice to have these simple savings and use it for persons that truly matters.
